The Clothesline.

Today I didn’t go anywhere special.  Just to run an errand to staples pretty much.  Todd wasn’t here to photograph my outfit so I photographed the cloche I wore.  I spotted this hat while I was out holiday shopping this year.  I was at Marshalls and it called to me from the hat rack – I had walked into the store that day telling myself ” I will not spend ANY money on me!”  but when I saw this hat I had to have it.  The tag inside reads Madison 88.

Aren’t the colors fabulous?!  Please – click on the image to enlarge and get a better look at those feathers.

Cotton

I love the look of fresh cotton!  I love neutrals so cotton fits right in with that – and I love the combination of the fluffy white cotton and the brown prickly plant.  I’m sure me being southern and driving past huge fields of the stuff might have something to do with it too.  It is perfect to decorate your home, party, or wedding!

And here are a couple of shots I did recently (Jacquelyn Jackson Photography) in a cotton field just the day before it was harvested.

Business On The Brain.

My brain is always full of ideas buzzing around that I either don’t have the time or money to deal with.  Some things I can do are in the works though!

I am slowly but surely working on rebranding Jacquelyn Jackson Photography and getting a new website up.

Getting rid of the red.  adding kraft and gold.

You like?  I like.

Next.

Our “dining room”  which has always been the room I pile all of my photography equiptment in- is in the process of being turned into a brand spankin new in home studio!   WOOOOOO!  Excitement abounds.  I am so ashamed of my piles upon piles of disorganization that I am not even going to post a before shot.  But I will update ya’ll with an after.

I’m cooking up something big in this head of mine that I would like to do with myself.  But it is so big that I probably won’t be able to actually see it through for three or four years…..

Car Show on the Square!

In our little town they host regular car shows in our downtown square – and they are quite the event!  They close down the square!  I have been wanting to go ever since we moved here.  I LOVE vintage cars.  Probably largely due to the face that my mom was married to a vintage car lovin, mechanically inclined, car show going man.  We would all go and they would play oldies and have hula hoop contests for us kids.

There were newer cars, classic cars, and rusty beat up older cars which were actually my favorites to photograph.  Love the texture and character.

So – here are some pictures of took of the cars today!

This next shot was by far the most awesome interior of the day.

And I think this little Datsun looked like I should be driving it.

My Birthday!

My birthday was this past week, I am now on the wrong side of 25.  Again, we had a little antiquing trip.  The soundtrack of the day?  Led Zeppelin, of course.  A good time was had by all.  All being the husband and I.

Started off the day with my summer addiction – a Starbucks java chip frappuccino!

Then I picked up a boatload of Krispy Kremes for some awesome ladies!  Which meant I also ate some donuts of course.

I can’t handle food that is TOO sweet – my favorite is the custard filled, but I also love the blueberry cake and chocolate cake donuts.  The husband on the other hand loves the sweets.  He ate one of the featured oreo donuts that had oreos on top and cookies and creme filling.

Antique stores are so fun!  I want everything in there.  I am constantly uttering “Oh this would be a perfect prop for a shoot” Or “This would be great for the studio I might have one day” which annoys the husband.  I actually did a bridal shoot in an antique store once.  Good times.

Childrens books.

Pretty Books.

Vehicles.

And after all of the antique stores we went to Dillards for a pair of birthday Sperrys.

and a Ralph Lauren button up from the little boys section because hey it fits me and it’s 25 dollars cheaper.

Then we finished off the day with some mexican for dinner – I ordered fajitas which were too yummy to stop and take pictures of.

Clothesline.

Thought I’d post a super casual clothesline for you guys.  This is one of my absolute favorite shirts.  Denim striped conductors shirt from the gap.  LOOOOOOVE.  Might not be the most spectacularly flattering thing but whatevs.  Also debuting the new haircut.  I went with a little shorter.  Thoughts?

Kodachrome.

Last week I was about to pop in my ear buds and listen to some tunes on my iPod – when I realized it had reset itself.   At first I was angry.  I mean, come on, there was so much music on that thing it was going to take me FOR EV ER to fill it up again.  But then I thought to myself, whatevs I needed to clean it out anyway.  As I was scrolling through our music library, I was looking in the Paul Simon section and my eyes stopped on ‘Kodachrome’.  As a photographer, this title stopped me.  What is this song about awesome vintage film?  The film that my favorite vintage images were taken on?  I pushed play and listened up.  I KNOW that song.  When the upbeat tune started I immediately knew what it was and it took me back.  I can actually be very specific about what it took me back to.  It took me back to when I was eight years and watching the movie ‘Coneheads’ OVER AND OVER AGAIN.  This song was in the movie.  But, when I was eight years old I had no idea what kodachrome was, so the lyrics never registered with me.  I have been listening to it non stop ever since then.  The lyrics just make me smile.  So here, listen to Kodachrome.  While you’re at it, look at these pictures I took of my baby boy last week.  I processed them to mimic Kodachrome film and I think I’ll do this much more often.  I hope the song puts a smile on your face as it does mine.

“Kodachrome
You give us those nice bright colors
You give us the greens of summers
Makes you think all the world’s a sunny day, oh yeah! ”

Home.

So I am back from my little trip to Chicago.  I was there for a photography workshop which was so fun, so informative, and so worth it.  It has really given me a new little push of excitement.  I got to meet a lot of people who have the same passion as I do and want to learn more.  I got to meet people that I work with (online).  And I got to see people who have taught me in the past and will continue to do so.  I was also able to travel with a couple of gals who I work closely with weekly and we really had a lot of fun together.  We all took a ton of hipstamatics and Imma gonna share some!

We flew out Saturday, checked into the hotel, ate some Chipotle, and went to a welcome party!  Sadly we didn’t get any outfit/party shots.

Started and finished this within the hour.

Chicagoland!

We stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn – and I gotta say – it was nice.  Awesome fitness center, great breakfast, coffee AND flavored creamers, to go cups, sleep by number beds, and really nice bedding.  My husband thinks I’m nuts because I tend to base my hotel selection firstly on the fact that they better NOT have bedspreads.

Sunday was an all day long workshop with the ladies.

just a few of the nice ladies!

Charlie – the incredibly creepy and real looking practice newborn.

After that we had dinner and finally saw Black Swan.  The movie was SO good.  The costumes were beautiful.  The dancing was spectacular.

Monday we awoke to another day of workshop, Chicago deep dish pizza for lunch (!) and then flew out of Chicago just in time to miss the big blizzard.

Started this on the plane.

Some portraits I took during the workshop.

New Orleans.

Today I was straightening the kitchen some and decided to take my Cafe Du Monde coffee can out for a little photo shoot.  We bought this on our honeymoon trip to New Orleans!  I have been wanting to go back ever since – maybe next summer….  This summer we are planning on going to visit my mom at the beach and to Atlanta.

While I was daydreaming about New Orleans I dug up some new orleans and saints centric stuff from the files.

Jacquelyn Jackson Photography.

Just posted a clients gallery – their wedding pictures!  I know they’re excited but so am I.  Its exciting after I load up memory card after memory card of pictures from a wedding to sift through them that first time.  After editing and a couple of more rounds of sorting – they are finally ready to organize and load to view.  All that in between is WORK!  It seems to take forever and is so exciting at the end, because I know I’m going to be able to make someone else excited.

I am also most anxious to edit the detail shots and the girls getting ready.  I’m going to share a few of the details from the wedding I posted tonight with you guys.
