Xmas Decor

I’m not big with holiday decorations.  In fact not including decorating the tree we have hardly any decorations.

I stumbled across these typography blocks on Etsy though and promptly added them to my Xmas list.

Well….not really.  But I have started my christmas shopping! Is it too early to be talking about christmas you guys? Halloween hasn’t even passed us by yet.

Halloween has always been my favorite holiday – but I think christmas may be beating it out this year. Maybe me being stuck in North Alabama with no friends that are interested in Halloween and a husband who could care less about it too has gotten me a little down over the past few years. When we were home in Mobile, our friends would dress up and go out with us, which made my husband a little more excited about it. But here – nah. We pretty much dress up and sit around the house watching horror movies-and I have to make him do that much. Can anyone say downer?

I have however been pretty excited about christmas. I’m trying to hold off on pulling out the tunes and movies until after Thanksgiving though. We are going to the hometown this year and I can’t wait to see everyone. I have been really missing my friends over this past year. We are going to get our butts to Bellingrath Gardens while we are there too! If you don’t know about Bellingrath – they are beautiful gardens in Mobile, Alabama – at christmas they put up these spectacular light shows that you can walk through and explore and I haven’t been in five years. Here are a few crappy images taken with a point and shoot from that trip five years ago – just to give you an idea. I will bring my camera this year and take some good images to share with you guys.

and one from the web.

I hope it isn’t hot this year though.  There are pictures of me from the last Mobile christmas wearing my pea coat so that seems promising.

(me with my Granny, mom, and stepdad – Mobile Christmas 2009)

Anyway – I have been waiting for A Very She and Him Christmas to come out and its here!  I had to at LEAST give it a listen before black Friday!  You guys take a listen too.  Zooeys voice is just delightful.

If you guys would like more christmas music suggestions I have another for you – One of my favorite albums is Ella Fitzgerald Wishes You A Merry Christmas and my favorite christmas song ever is Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas performed by Judy Garland.

(subliminal message for Marsha if she is reading this….I sure do hope there are some buckeyes this christmas – wink wink!)

This year The Husband and I had a quiet holiday at home just the two of us.  We like to do that every couple of years – make our own traditions.  I thought I’d share with you guys a few random photos from the morning.

We had homemade buttermilk pancakes and bacon for breakfast!  PB and syrup on top!

Now, I know Christmas isn’t all about gifts – but nonetheless we’ll get phone calls, emails, and facebook messages asking ‘what did you get?!’  So I figured I’d take pictures and post them here for those folks who wanted to know.  (mostly our relatives…)

Me time!

West Elm platter.  When we hosted Thanksgiving I realized we didnt really have any platter big enough for turkey – so I added this one to my list.

Owl mug – I love owls.  The owl is my favorite animal.  I have been thinking about getting an owl tattoo a lot lately.

Another West Elm – a pretty framed silhouette of a little girl to hang in the bedroom.

This framed skeletal chart from ZGallerie.  I’m going to hang it on the wall right there in the entryway over our record player -and hang a mirror up beside it.

A new doormat – another owl!

Valley of the Dolls Special Edition DVD.  I love love love this movie!  songs – beautiful costumes – big hair – mod makeup – beautiful ladies – over the top acting.  You can’t ask for much more.  The packaging is beautiful.

There were some miniature lobby card reproductions inside.  If you dont know, lobby cards were pretty much posters of production stills that were hung in theaters to promote the film.

This is my favorite one – of Neely in the sanitarium trying to kick those dolls.

Look at the menu screens!  They’re fabulous.

I made this once…for another blog.

The Virgin Suicides.  The movie is one of my favorites, so maybe the book will be too?

I told you guys I was going to start reading the Harry Potter books – heres the first one, sans book cover.

A much needed wallet that matched perfectly with my kelly moore camera bag.

Cozy Minnetonka slippers.

Flannel VS PJs, and other goodies from JCrew, Gap, and Anthropologie.

Now for The Husband.

Clothes.

Shoes

Marshall headphones – I love the packaging!

He loves when other people play the harmonica – so I got him a little beginners harmonica and book – we’ll see what comes of it!

The newest Lock and Key

Inception – I was pretty let down by the special features.  I was thinking OH YEAH this movie will have AWESOME special features – documentaries, making ofs, I’ll get to see how they did the 0g scenes.  But no.  The only awesome thing there was a documentary about dreams.

He also received a pair of minnetonka slippers – the old man scuff version.

And a whole bunch of kitchen stuff.  He spends a lot of time in there.  I venture to say if he would have discovered his love for cooking earlier he may have gone to culinary school.

A cookbook we are both excited about.

A dinner of turkey, homemade cranberry sauce, rolls, brussels sprouts, and rosemary roasted potatoes.  YUMMY!  Those potatoes were the best part.  We don’t eat them often.  We had some leftover bacon from breakfast that we crumbled over top the potatoes which made them even better.  We watched A Christmas Story the rest of the night.

I hope you guys had a Happy Holiday!  We did – snow, good eats, gifts, chocolate, and our Santa Klaus!

Life

Done.

Are you done holiday shopping and shipping?  We’re pretty good about the shopping part – we start in September.  But the shipping…we hate.  We shipped our last package out today.  Headed to the hometown.  We aren’t going down ourselves this go round – going to stay here and have a quiet christmas at home.  Thank goodness we only spent about twenty minutes in Fedex I was afraid we’d be there an hour.

With the holiday season comes a lot of parties and family gatherings, so I thought I’d have you guys ready for them with a couple of looks.

hair via Cup Of Jo, dress Anthropologie, bracelet Delias, glasses Madewell, ring Burberry, shoes asos

dress Ruche, shoes Nine West, bag Target, earrings Modcloth, bracelet Lulus

Happy Holiday – may your days be stylish and bright!

Look at this great wrap job.  My mother-in-law did this one.  She said she ran out of time!

Blogs

Nice.

I was over on Wide Open Spaces and she wrote a post about simplifying Christmas. She and her family decided to choose four gifts for each other. Not four random gifts, but from four categories. The categories are something you want, something you need, something to wear, and something to read. I like it!

Its up and the pup is not sure what to think about it.  But we like it!  Last year was our first *married* Christmas, we got all of these ornaments last season from Tarjay (if you dont speak the language that would be Target).  Except for the owl.  My granny bought that one for me.  When it comes to Christmas – I like gold.  Gold ornaments, gold holiday dresses, gold shoes.  Who am I kidding I love gold all year round.  Here are way to many pictures.
