The Crying Game.

I haven’t done a crying game post in a while.  And I’m not really doing one now.  I thought i’d just say how the idea came up -for anyone wondering – I started doing it because I felt like for people who really know me it would be hilarious.  The hubs laughs at the things I cry about all of the time.  He will be in ‘the study’ on the computer and hear me sniffling in the living room.

I cry very very easily.  Not like omg that person looked at me sideways type of cry.  But like omg I’m listening to this beautiful John Lennon song and thinking about how he was killed and it’s sad because such a beautiful person died so suddenly and in such a violent manner and what it must of been like to have been alive at that time and hear the news of his death….

Its usually like…I’m having some deep thoughts about something small and silly that someone like say, my husband, doesnt think about at all.  I have noticed this difference between he and I over the years.  He constantly hears from me thoughts that begin with “Do you ever wonder…”  or ‘Do you ever think about…”and then at the end of it all his answer is always “no I do not.”  As Deano the psychic told me in New Orleans this past January, we are just fundamentally different.

But when people hear this about me (that know me)  they would never ever ever suspect that.  Let’s just say most people wouldn’t describe me with words like ‘sweet’ or ‘sensitve’.  And I’m not sweet.

So when I am watching someone sing on The Voice and you see me trying not to cry or when I am just talking about watching Six Feet Under and my eyes tear up – don’t mind me.  I’m just weird and having deep thoughts.

The Boys.

One of our high school friends got married a couple of weeks ago, and I was SO excited to be a guest at a wedding!!  Not to mention that I would get to see these dudes +1 (PLUS the bride and groom of course!)  They stopped by our house the day after the wedding on their way back to hang out !  The weekend only made me miss home and want to move back so we can hang out with these people much more often.  I just know if we decided to move back we’d get unpacked and then our friends would all decide to move away.  Wah WAH wah.

The Clothesline.

This is Klaus and I a couple of weeks ago.  Don’t remember where I was going!  Probably to grab a quick dinner with the hubs.  I know I look like a nerd.  You like that blue dead leaves trash can in the background?  Yeah you do.

Red Carpet.

Another red carpet post!  Everyone knows to watch for Michelle Williams on the red carpet – she isn’t afraid to be risky/quirky and she has a pretty great track record.  But I like to look out for both Michelle Williams AND her BFF Busy Phillips!  I think they are both fab and they are always together on the red carpet.  So here they are at the 2012 Independent Spirit Awards.

and a couple of others for good measure!

2011 Oscars.

2012 Golden Globes

Recurring Dreams

Do any of you guys have recurring dreams? Ya know, dreams that you have over and over again throughout your life? I have always been interested in dreams and dream interpretation. I know that some dreams are just ‘I watched some show today and now I’m dreaming about the same thing’, and some dreams are addled with symbols to sort though, but I believe (as many others do) that most dreams are your brain putting you in certain situations so you have a chance for a walk through. ESPECIALLY recurring dreams. If you constantly dream of the same situation your brain is able to try out different responses to give you different outcomes and you will be better prepared with an automatic response if the situation ever happens in real life…because you’ve done it before…only in your mind.

I have a recurring dream – of zombie apocalypse. I have this dream constantly! It is different every time – different place, different people, different reactions – but it is the same situation of a zombie apocalypse. I do not think this is a “symbolism dream” If you look up zombies in dreams you will find an explanation that if you are being attacked by zombies in your dreams it could symbolize that you are feeling overwhelmed by forces beyond your control. I do not feel like this is me! I think this is my brain feeling that I need to know what to do if there were ever to be a real life zombie apocalypse.

No, sitting here being sane I will tell you that I do not believe that dead bodies will just dig out of their graves and come to eat us. BUT, I do not find the premise of some sort of biological weapon seeping from some military base could do some major crazy damage (28 Days Later style). There I said it.  My brain knows I feel this way and is giving me plenty of zombie destroying practice.

What type of recurring dreams do you have?

Jogging.

Since I’ve joined the local gym I’ve tried something new.  Running on the treadmill.  I’ve done a lot on the elliptical – but thought I’d add in some treadmill.  I’ve always seen joggers and runners going by in the mornings as I’m driving in my car and held them in high regard.  I’ve always thought of the strength and endurance these folks must have.  I didn’t think I’d like the treadmill but my personal trainer suggested I run it everyday I come in to the gym.  I was kind of intimidated by it.  I mean, if I stop running the thing keeps going ay?  Surprisingly I really like it.  Today I showed up at the gym at my usual time for my training session and she suggested we take it outside and run around the shopping center.  I was excited to try and run for the first time outside – NOT on the treadmill with an iPod and a tv in front of me.  I did it – without stopping for any breaks or even dying.  (haha)  I need some new tennies.  Any suggestions?

More Christmas..

What can I say…I’m just not ready for it to be over!  I decided today I would put my Christmas moolah gifts to work.  I bought three things.

The first is a tissue turtleneck tee from JCrew.  I don’t have any of their tissue tees – so I hope I like it.  But I LOVE turtlenecks.  I only own turtlenecks in sweater form, and although I know these tissue tees are mostly used for layering, it may seem weird wearing one that isnt a sweater.

The second was a striped hoodie, also from JCrew.  I only own one hoodie – and after losing nearly ninety pounds its too big for me.  I never got around to buying a new one.  Mainly because I don’t frequent a hoodie – but everyone needs one!  And I’m also a sucker for stripes.

And last but certainly not least is the DVD Christmas Unwrapped – The History Of Christmas from the history channel.  I LOVE watching this and unfortunately if you try to get it in on Netflix during the holiday season ….YOU WONT….so I bought it.  If you would like to know where the christmas traditions you practice ACTUALLY came from.  Watch this.

So thank you to all you family members that sent me dollah dollah bills for christmas!  This is what ya got me.

Christmas.

This year The Husband and I had a quiet holiday at home just the two of us.  We like to do that every couple of years – make our own traditions.  I thought I’d share with you guys a few random photos from the morning.

We had homemade buttermilk pancakes and bacon for breakfast!  PB and syrup on top!

Now, I know Christmas isn’t all about gifts – but nonetheless we’ll get phone calls, emails, and facebook messages asking ‘what did you get?!’  So I figured I’d take pictures and post them here for those folks who wanted to know.  (mostly our relatives…)

Me time!

West Elm platter.  When we hosted Thanksgiving I realized we didnt really have any platter big enough for turkey – so I added this one to my list.

Owl mug – I love owls.  The owl is my favorite animal.  I have been thinking about getting an owl tattoo a lot lately.

Another West Elm – a pretty framed silhouette of a little girl to hang in the bedroom.

This framed skeletal chart from ZGallerie.  I’m going to hang it on the wall right there in the entryway over our record player -and hang a mirror up beside it.

A new doormat – another owl!

Valley of the Dolls Special Edition DVD.  I love love love this movie!  songs – beautiful costumes – big hair – mod makeup – beautiful ladies – over the top acting.  You can’t ask for much more.  The packaging is beautiful.

There were some miniature lobby card reproductions inside.  If you dont know, lobby cards were pretty much posters of production stills that were hung in theaters to promote the film.

This is my favorite one – of Neely in the sanitarium trying to kick those dolls.

Look at the menu screens!  They’re fabulous.

I made this once…for another blog.

The Virgin Suicides.  The movie is one of my favorites, so maybe the book will be too?

I told you guys I was going to start reading the Harry Potter books – heres the first one, sans book cover.

A much needed wallet that matched perfectly with my kelly moore camera bag.

Cozy Minnetonka slippers.

Flannel VS PJs, and other goodies from JCrew, Gap, and Anthropologie.

Now for The Husband.

Clothes.

Shoes

Marshall headphones – I love the packaging!

He loves when other people play the harmonica – so I got him a little beginners harmonica and book – we’ll see what comes of it!

The newest Lock and Key

Inception – I was pretty let down by the special features.  I was thinking OH YEAH this movie will have AWESOME special features – documentaries, making ofs, I’ll get to see how they did the 0g scenes.  But no.  The only awesome thing there was a documentary about dreams.

He also received a pair of minnetonka slippers – the old man scuff version.

And a whole bunch of kitchen stuff.  He spends a lot of time in there.  I venture to say if he would have discovered his love for cooking earlier he may have gone to culinary school.

A cookbook we are both excited about.

A dinner of turkey, homemade cranberry sauce, rolls, brussels sprouts, and rosemary roasted potatoes.  YUMMY!  Those potatoes were the best part.  We don’t eat them often.  We had some leftover bacon from breakfast that we crumbled over top the potatoes which made them even better.  We watched A Christmas Story the rest of the night.

I hope you guys had a Happy Holiday!  We did – snow, good eats, gifts, chocolate, and our Santa Klaus!

Snow Day!

Can you believe …that I had a white christmas?  In Alabama?  I’ve been in Alabama for 25 years – gotta say that this is my first white christmas.  I managed to snap a couple of pictures.

House Purchase.

When we first moved in together, much of our furniture was (and still is) comprised of hand me downs.  As I suspect most 20 somethings furniture collection is.  Our couch for instance.  Our couch was my Great Grandmothers (Mama C).  It was big and comfy and…..white.  The thing wasn’t exactly our style but it was a nice couch and free.  So we took it.  After the couch came this little fur nugget.

And we oohed and ahhhhed and awwww how cuted.  He was so tiny it didn’t seem like a big deal at the time to pick him up and put him on the couch with us so he could take his little puppy naps.  He was even too small to hop up himself.  But then he grew.

He needed chew toys.  He thought the couch was his bed/play area.  So that white couch turned kind of dingy, kind of worn.

So if you haven’t guessed yet – our latest house purchase was a NEW COUCH!  I’m excited.  We chose a contemporary dark grey cordy number.  Klaus has been doing surprisingly well with the stay off of the new couch training.  After the first few initial “NO!” and “LEAVE IT!” s he just left it alone.

Now for some bright pillows!  I really dig these AphroChic pillows.  I love all of her pillows actually, and their fall line comes out Monday.  I hope these three gems are still there because I would like to eventually purchase them.
