The 20 Something Society

We're going to make it after all.

The Chair.

This chair has been passed around my family for a long time now.  Its pretty shabby looking – but really all it needs is a good re-upholstering.  Though I do love the old green velvety fabric.  BUT, since Klaus outgrew his little baby puppydom, this has been his favorite spot to sit, so I didnt see any point in recovering it at the present time.  He got up to wander about for a bit today and I couldn’t help but look at the empty chair with his blankie on the arm and think how sad it looked without Klaus in it.

It didn’t stay that way for long.

We finally framed and hung the Owl prints that my mom got me for xmas.  We hung them above our new dresser which was a great Craigslist fine (and has matching nightstands).

I think the TV is quite the monstrosity.  I tried to talk Todd into putting a smaller TV (he isnt going to go for no TV at the present time) and he wouldnt budge.  We only watch it MAYBE 30 minutes when we first go to bed.  He usually falls asleep pretty fast.  I think once this TV is outdated and crusty and we need to get it out, maybe we won’t get another one, or a small one.

My Kitchen.

I was straightening the kitchen as my coffee was brewing, and thought this was a lovely vignette, so I snapped an iPhone shot.  We’ve been wanting to paint over that yellow since we moved in, but the owls do look nice in front of the color.

I’ve been dresser hunting on and off for a while now.  We aren’t in desperate need.  I mean we have dressers that hold a our clothing.  We’re just looking for something that better fits our style and needs.  I stumbled upon this one in a thrift store this week.

We like the mid century modern type shapes.  So this one stuck out!  I sent this pic out to Todd and he said he ‘didn’t like the little drawers on the side’.  I had to admit though I thought the dresser was pretty, he was right.  The tiny drawers on the side would leave us wanting for more room.  I’m still keeping my eyes peeled-mostly checking craigslist every five minutes and popping into my favorite thrift/consignment/antique stores to look around.  My dream is to find a nice and decently priced campaign dresser.  We found a drop dead gorgeous one on our last trip to Mobile…but we were in Mobile…we didn’t have room for it and our luggage and Klaus for the 5 hour car ride home.  It looked very much like this and I am still very sad that we couldn’t get it.

Guest Room.

The guest room is coming right along.  Here are the last couple of iPhone pictures that I took of the room.

I found matching vintage twin headboards at a local thrift store (they are red!).  We plan on using white bedding with the jaguar print pillows as seen here.  Todd found a pair of matching swiss army wool blankets from WWII that were never issued, and promptly ordered them.  We haven’t received them yet though!  We are both pretty excited about this find – we’ve been looking for some reasonably priced ones for some time now.  And then there is the gorgeous rug that I found at Home Goods that I have between the two beds.  Today I was browsing Society6 and found a few prints that will be perfect for the walls.  There are three separate artists that I was drawn too, so we might get a couple of pieces from each and mix them together?  We shall see.

It just occurred to me that I do not believe I ever shared images from when we bought our grown up West Elm bed!

I love our West Elm bed AND our flannel sheets!  I decided to leave the bed unmade for photos because thats whats real!  We aren’t bed makers unless company is coming.  Granny may not approve, but thats just the truth!  I like looking at our unmade bed it looks cozy to me.  I also think its funny and goes with our personalities that Todds pillow is left in place just so, with an obvious dent where he lays in the same place, and my pillow is left all askew and hanging off the bed.

Our throw pillows stay stacked in this chair beside the dresser -unless company is coming and the bed is made of course!  I like the texture these pillows bring to the room!

Here is an update on the guest room!  From deep periwinkle, to buttery cream!

The room looks so much brighter now!  I went thrifting with a friend of mine a few days ago scouting for matching vintage twin headboards or beds.  I was lucky enough to find what I was looking for – along with some great shops to introduce to a few of my other friends!!  I found two matching vintage headboards that are red (and were $28 for both)!  Remember my inspiration board!  Red fits right in!  I am planning on white bedding with a brown throw pillow on each one.  Some sort of navajo inspired throw/camp blanket/afghan on the foot of each.  Not necessarily matching.  I’m excited!  As soon as I have the mattresses ordered an in-house I’ll set up the headboards/beds and snap a pic for you guys!

The House

Guest Room.

My husband has left me for the day – he left for Atlanta to enjoy a Braves game with some of his friends.  I have taken advantage of this day to myself to do some much needed catch up work!!!  Most of my work is done from my home, but over the last couple of weeks I have been spending A LOT of time ‘in the field’ and am far behind on my at-home work!  I have also done a bit of planning for our guest room though!  We have been in this house for 2 or 3 years now.  I’ve lost track I know thats sad.  We have yet to TOUCH the guest room.  It is still the same awful shade of blue it was when we moved in, with an aero bed and the husbands old dresser inside.  We have officially purchased the paint to cover the blue though!!!!  FINALLY!  We are planning on painting next weekend!  Before we chose a paint color of course, I had to decide on a color/decorating scheme for the room, and make an inspiration board to show the husband so that he could visualize also.  here is my inspiration board!

You like?  Eh?  I like.  The background color is not the color we ended up choosing – but something similar.

The awful shade of blue the room is now.

When we first moved in together, much of our furniture was (and still is) comprised of hand me downs.  As I suspect most 20 somethings furniture collection is.  Our couch for instance.  Our couch was my Great Grandmothers (Mama C).  It was big and comfy and…..white.  The thing wasn’t exactly our style but it was a nice couch and free.  So we took it.  After the couch came this little fur nugget.

And we oohed and ahhhhed and awwww how cuted.  He was so tiny it didn’t seem like a big deal at the time to pick him up and put him on the couch with us so he could take his little puppy naps.  He was even too small to hop up himself.  But then he grew.

He needed chew toys.  He thought the couch was his bed/play area.  So that white couch turned kind of dingy, kind of worn.

So if you haven’t guessed yet – our latest house purchase was a NEW COUCH!  I’m excited.  We chose a contemporary dark grey cordy number.  Klaus has been doing surprisingly well with the stay off of the new couch training.  After the first few initial “NO!” and “LEAVE IT!” s he just left it alone.

Now for some bright pillows!  I really dig these AphroChic pillows.  I love all of her pillows actually, and their fall line comes out Monday.  I hope these three gems are still there because I would like to eventually purchase them.

So, I haven’t posted a house project in forever.  Literally really.  Coming up over the next month we are getting a new couch and redoing our bathroom.  I WILL be posting pictures!  We picked out our couch today it was the first one I laid eyes on in this particular store.

This picture isnt the best representation – the internet picture looks kind of like microsuede..I assure you it is not.  It is a dark grey and fabulous.  In the store it is a beautiful grassclothy lineny khaki.  We are not necessarily getting those pillows.  Stay tunes for more on this and other bathroom news.
