I stumbled across this invite somewhere sometime ago and saved it to my documents where i recently stumbled upon it again.
How could you not go to this party? Anyway, this invite immediately makes me think of my grandmothers old Jubilee cookbooks. Even when I was a little girl I liked to look through them and look at the illustrations. They looked much like this invite. I can’t find any Jubilee images on the googles! And my Grannys cookbooks are in her pantry five and a half hours away. Maybe next time I go down to visit I can do some scanning for you guys.
Early in the morn, before the sun rises, I’ll be up and getting ready for work. Ye olde day job. But there is a bright spot in my day. Bright and gooey and yummy and fattening. Dale is making me some homemade peach cobbler! YEAH! I LOVE cobbler. She even said she was going to wake up extra early in the morning and make the friggin thing fresh. Guess I know what I’ll be eating for breakfast.
Every few months I just want to go camping. I haven’t been in YEARS! And The Husband has never been. He’s a self proclaimed inside boy. I think if I could only get him to go camping during the fall, he’d like it. It’s not hot, there aren’t bugs everywhere, the air smells nice. I like the idea. So. If we can find some time this fall, we should go. Ya hear that babe?
If you ask my family what kind of eater I am, they may say I’m kind of picky…which I am. But I have been eating new things over the past couple of years and eating things I wouldn’t used to. I also have this weird I only eat this with that quirk. Or if I eat this I have to have that or that and this. The pairings are important to me. Also the things I “didn’t like” (usually I had never tasted these things) weren’t usually about not liking the taste. I don’t like certain textures. I don’t like gooey…like fat on meat, I don’t like rubbery…like scallops, not into gummy….as in gummy bears and orange slices, and I have never liked peppers. Well, Except for these peppers.
We have all kinds of peppers growing in our little garden, and usually when The Husband wants some with dinner he has to cook them and eat them by himself. He always begs me to try some. No. Thank. You. Tonight I walked in and he had some peppers in the wok getting ready to cook em up, I exclaimed my disgust with a crinkly nose face, and went to get out of the work clothes. When I came back he was cooking them in soy sauce…and they smelled heavenly! All of a sudden, I got excited about them! I wanted some too! I don’t know what it was..it smelled like chinese food? I threw some peanuts in with them. Mmmmm…they looked even better.
I put a scoop on my plate, right next to the pork chop…and ate every last one of them. They were goooood! Mark the date people. Today was the great pepper turnaround.
Klaus loves many things…looking out of windows at squirrels, lounging with his pop pop, and eating ice cubes just to name a few.
If you go out in the yard with him to throw a toy – he will likely ignore you and go for the stick. Maybe he’s a hippie okay? He likes things natural. Another natural treat he enjoys is…
Broccoli stalks? Thats right he’s stinkin obsessed with them. And I’m cool with that because they’re free! We cooked broccoli tonight. I threw all of the stalks in the back yard…ahhh that will bring the pup many moments of pure joy. He’ll drag that stalk over to a tall patch of grass and gnaw on it all the livelong day.
We planted many peppers in our little garden bed this year. Jalapenos, sweet banana peppers, hot banana peppers, cayenne peppers, and bell peppers. We have so many that we can’t eat them all right now! We, and when I say we I mean The Husband, have been spending the day pickeling them! I can’t really tell you the steps…because I didn’t do it. But it smells bad, involves sterilizing mason jars, boiling water, a big pot, some jar tongs, and mustard seed.
Yesterday I was watching Leon: The Professional, which I had never seen before. Two thumbs up, you should see it. Natalie Portman and Jean Reno were great together.
Little Natalie is seen drinking a cherry coke in one scene…and I had totally forgotten that can design. It was the one they were using when I was a kid and it really made me smile when I saw it.
I was looking at a blog post on Inspired By This about cakes…and this cake stopped me in my tracks. Its different from anything I’ve seen before. And square cakes are my favorite. The kind of ombre icing coloring is genius too.
