Major Let Down.

On another Golden Globes note.  I just wanted to give my biggest let down of the night its own post.  I was really excited to see Michelle Williams tonight.  She is usually so SPOT ON.

She even donned one of my all time favorite red carpet dresses – this tangerine dream.

But tonight….oh my, tonight.  Girl fire your stylist.

Awards Season.

Its here folks.  Awards season.  To quote Ryan Seacrest – “the superbowl of the entertainment industry.”  I LOVE it!  But…not necessarily so I can cheer for whomever I believe deserves each award – I’m more interested in the pre show red carpet footage!  WHAT ARE THEY WEARING?  I have to say so far this season I’ve been pretty underwhelmed.

Admittedly I didnt catch all of the Critics Choice awards – but these are the only dresses that really caught my attention.

Annette Benning and a pregnant Natalie Portman

and Emma Stone.

Now.  Tonight was the Golden Globes.  This is where you can really go all out and glam it up!  But The first half of the red carpet footage seemed to blahhhh.

Here are my pics for the Golden Globe dresses.

Angelina Jolie

Anne Hathaway

Emma Stone – the color was much brighter on screen.

Julia Stiles

Leighton Meester

Mandy Moore

Now – I dont usually go for poufy princess sort dresses – but I think this is actually the only dress that made me go WOW THATS GORGEOUS!

Lady List

Kat posted a list of 10 pieces of clothing every lady should have – and it really resonated with me.  I used to be all about quantity over quality – but as of late I’ve been in the quality of quantity headspace.  I guess it comes with age.  I’m not so interested in buying a lot of cheap trendy pieces – I’d rather have classic high quality pieces that will last.  But sometimes its still hard to think about spending two and three hundred dollars on one piece.  I found pieces to put on my wishlist so I can have the ten pieces of clothing every lady should have.

1. A Trench

I’ve been gazing at this JCrew one for awhile.  Its beautiful – its also one of those three hundred dollar pieces I was talking about before.

There is a more affordable version at American Eagle.  I don’t tend to shop “juniors” but this one looks nice and is a lot cheaper at $70.  Of course you pay for what you get so the JCrew trench will surely last a LOT longer.  And is prettier.

2. Knee High Boots.

I already have these!  Borns – a xmas present from the hubby a couple of years ago.  These are them -except mine are brown.

3. Basic Black Dress.

Believe it or not I do not have this.  WHAAAA?!

Here is one from Target – everyones favorite place. $40.  Very Hepburn.

and this one from JCrew.  yet another $300

Also -$80 Ann Taylor Loft Shift Dress I think this one is actually my fave go look!

4. Heels.

Of course I have heels, but I prefer platform wedges.  If i get heels its best for me to get kitten or stacked.  But I need an update.  I have one pair of white – the ones I wore with my wedding dress.  The pair of leopard print you guys saw a few posts back.  one pair of black that I dont like anymore but have kept in case I NEED a pair.  I need a pair of black and a pair of brown that I will actually wear to make a basic wardrobe.

Here is a nice kitten metallic from BCBG

Brown stacked from Gianni Bini.

Seychelle Password Pumps

5. Loafers
Frye

6. Blazer

I have a navy pinstripe JCrew outlet Blazer as of right now.

7. Oxford Button Up.

I have these – I love to wear collard shirts so these are a fave of mine.

8. Boots.

I like these Born boots – a little embellishment a little built in worn – ness.

Or these black suede MIA

9. Lacey Underthings.

Black from American Apparel

Black from UO

Floral and black undies from Asos

10. Pencil Skirt.

JCREW!  Pencil skirt in nightfall blue.

Well, folks, thats the lady list!

New Years Buys.

The Husband and I went out for a nice quiet dinner on New Years Eve.  Just the two of us.  Thats the way we like it.  We’re a bit antisocial.  We both ordered the exact same thing.  A pasta dish which included bacon shrimp AND chicken cooked in a rosemary cream sauce – and then all of it topped with a roasted red pepper sauce – whew!  It was DElish!  I am a sucker for anything involving the word rosemary.  I was planning on being good and ordering a salad but that obviously didnt happen.

I went out the day before New Years Eve and bought a couple of little items to add to my outfit.

Some leopard print kitten heels (meeeow!)  and a coral lipstick.  I can’t wait to try these kitten heels with different things – especially my skinny jeans!  The husband took some pics of me in my outfit before we left – but I havent uploaded them yet – been lazy.  What did you do for New Years?  For me its not really about DOING anything spectacular – just being able to get dressed up!

The Clothesline – Christmas Dinner Edition!

This coming Friday The Husband and I will be attending a little christmas dinner.  I shared a post with yall a little while ago sharing some little holiday party outfits with you guys – heres one of mine!  The invite read “dressy casual”.

I plan on adding a sparkly bracelet, hair clip, and red lip.

FYI – Todd is planning on wearing his red sweater with a yet undecided button up underneath paired with a nice dark pair of jeans and his black chucks.

Rainy Day Women.

I have been searching for a raincoat.  But not just a coat shaped weather resistant piece of fabric.  It needs to be cute.  The husband kept saying “Oh get one from LL Bean.”  Sure, theyre nice.  But they aren’t cute enough for me.  I’ve been searching and searching and finally found one that is part utilitarian part cute.  Can you guess where it is from?

Lauren Hutton – Style Icon.

I love Lauren Hutton.  She has a free spirit and her carefree ease radiates from that beautiful gap toothed smile.  She has styled some looks for J Crew – go to their site and you can see them, theyre maaavalous.  To steal a quote from Oprah – … “Lauren Hutton made authenticity, audacity, and ease her fashion watchwords—and forged a new freedom for women. She’s still at it.”Styling tips from her to us!

” You never want to look live you’ve spent too much time getting dressed….”

“I like mixing expensive with inexpensive.  and I like easy things that don’t normally go together, like a simple mens thermal with sequined track pants.  Put them together in a smart way and it feels very fresh.”

“Developing your very best personal style…involves a lot of trial and error.  Youth is for trying absolutely everything.  Usually by fifty you have some idea of what works for you…”

“Fashion is what you’re offered four times a year.  Style is what you pick out of that fashion…”

Love The Look.

I am loving Drews hair and makeup from the He’s Just Not That Into You premiere.  She looks so classic early sixties.  And yes, I borrowed all of these pictures from Just Jared.

The Cuteness.

I stumbled across some absolutely beautiful reworked vintage lockets on the interwebs.  They are by Etsy seller Verabel.

Little golden works of art.
